On November 26, 2018, Media Sonar hosted an advanced workshop on The Changing Landscape of Digital Investigations.
Product expert Vince Jung was joined by guest speaker Det. Aamer Merchant, a member of the Peel Regional Police and a subject matter practitioner on cyber investigations.
The workshop began with an introduction to Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques. Using data that is available on the surface web, public security agencies can assess threats to better protect and serve. Our clients learned new tips and tools used to assist in digital threat identification. We followed this up with a practical exercise using OSINT techniques.
The second half of the workshop focused on the dark web. The dark web allows people to communicate anonymously and covertly online. This hands-on session looked at the value of dark web in digital investigations. Using Media Sonar, investigators can navigate the dark web in a safe, anonymous and legal manner. Also, you are always protected from malicious files and downloads yet able to include file content in your investigation.
